Majority of Mail readers want to see a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for drink drivers
While Christmas is a joyful time, it’s also that time of year where the number of drink and drug drive arrests almost double compared to any other time of year.
We asked in our recent online poll: “As police forces across the UK prepare to clamp down on drink-drivers throughout the festive period, do you think our legal alcohol limits should be stricter?”

Hide AdMore than 300 Mail readers voted online and 83% agreed that the legal limit should be stricter while 17% did not.
Ben Forbes said: “Fine of 25% of annual salary and an immediate 6 month jail term.
“Just like they do in Norway.”
Colin Keightley said: “I personally think if your going to drive then don’t drink at all,
“But, at the moment it’s about two units. Most pints of larger go over two units.
“A lot of people think the law is two pints.

Amy-leigh Norris said in response to Colin: “It should be zero tolerance that way there is no confusion.
“People think it’s two pints and your still legal but its measured in units everyone processes alcohol differently to much of a grey area.
“If your driving get a soft drink and don’t risk it.”
