Police arrest two men after crash casualty is taken to hospital following A689 collision

Cleveland Police have arrested two men in connection with the incident on the A689 at Greatham on Tuesday, March 30, after a person was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with injuries which not thought to be life threatening.
The road is expected to remain closed in either direction for “several hours”, Hartlepool Borough Council reported at around 3pm.

Hide AdOfficers are now appealing for witnesses and motorists with dash cam footage which may show a red Audi convertible and a black VW Golf travelling from the A19 to Greatham between around 12.30pm and 12.50pm today.
The Great North Air Ambulance service attended the scene along with police and the road remains closed in both directions.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “The A689 remains closed in both directions to allow collision investigation work to commence and two men (20 and 19) have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A North East Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.44 today to reports of a serious RTC between two vehicles on the A689 near Billingham.
"Two ambulance crews were despatched, an officer, two of our hazard area response teams and a specialist paramedic.
"We requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
"Police also attended the scene.

Officers are asking members the public to avoid the area and to find alternative routes as the closure will remain in place for some time.
Hartlepool Borough Council then added in a statement just before 3pm: “The police currently have the road closed in both directions.
“It is not known at this time how long the road will be closed for, however early indications are that it could be for several hours.
