Blackhall Colliery care homes celebrate after achieving top rating in national survey

Residents at Field View Care Home and Yohden Care Complex in Blackhall Colliery are celebrating this week after scoring high in a nationwide survey.

The results, launched today, show Field View was given an overall performance rating (OPR) score of 889, out of 1,000 and Yohden scored 958 out of 1,000 after residents rated them across four aspects of care.

Now in its fourth year, the Your Care Rating survey is the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents that gives residents a voice about their care how well care homes perform.

Over 20,000 residents in 963 care homes across the UK took part. Each care home was given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes; Staff and Care, Home Comforts, Choice and Having a Say, and Quality of Life.

Field View achieved scores of 896 for quality of life and 893 for staff and care, meaning the residents of Field View highly rate the standard of care they receive for quality of life,

including taking part in hobbies and activities, having privacy respected and feeling safe and secure and also highly rate the standard of staff and care they receive.

The Blackhall Colliery homes have scored high when compared with the national average of 878.

Michelle Howarth, Home Manager at Field View, said: “It’s great that our residents value the care they receive at Field View.

"Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive, which shows that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling. "

Yohden Care Complex received scores of 974 for quality of life and 960 for home and comforts, meaning the residents of Yohden highly rate the standard of care they receive for home comforts. this includes quality and choice of food, laundry service and the cleanliness and tidiness of the home, and their quality of life, including taking part in hobbies and activities, having privacy respected and feeling safe and secure.

Home Manager at Yohden, Maxine Lee, Said: “While we’re really pleased with our scores, we obviously want to get even better and the survey helps us do that by giving us direct resident feedback.

"Families can also see at a glance which care homes are committed to raising standards and being transparent as they take part in the survey.

"Every care home resident should be able to speak up about their care and this is what the Your Care Rating survey does – it gives them a voice.”

Field View offers residential and dementia care for the elderly, while Yohden offers nursing care, dementia care and specialist care for adults with learning disabilities.

Both homes are operated by Countrywide Care Homes, one of the UK’s largest care home providers.

This is the third year in a row that both Field View and Yohden have scored above the national average in the survey of residents.
